UNITE THE FORCES

Planet MINT

Our network to support, connect and strengthen «Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics» (STEM) initiatives in Switzerland.

There are many great STEM initiatives and course providers in Switzerland that aim to fascinate and enable the next generation with basic skills and knowledge in STEM.
They have developed their best practices and ways to operate successfully, but they are also confronted with challenges. Planet MINT aims to unite the forces of the individual initiatives, address challenges together and to foster mutual inspiration.

More about the initiative

How do we want to do it?

Together we raise awareness and visibility for the importance of STEM. We share knowledge and best-practices, formulate and address challenges together, drive them forward and make them visible (e.g. though publications). As we address challenges together, everyone has more resources for their core business: enabling and fascinating the next generation.

Our aim is to position STEM Initiatives in the educational landscape. At the heart of our Network stand our Code of Conduct for STEM Initiatives in Switzerland.

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct is based on Planet MINT thematic Workshops in 2023, the feedback of the Planet MINT Community and interested experts in the field.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION (with a focus on gender-sensitivity)

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, religions and abilities. We particularly recognize the fact that women are still underrepresented in STEM and aim to increase diversity by following our scientifically based gender-sensitive guidelines.

CONTEXT & FUTURE SKILLS

CONTEXT & FUTURE SKILLS

We are committed to promoting future-oriented skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, systems- thinking, creativity, and collaboration, in addition to technical knowledge and expertise.

ENGAGEMENT & FUN

ENGAGEMENT & FUN

At the heart of our initiatives stands the positive experience with STEM. Curiosity, fun and low-threshold access are key for a positive learning experience. We create an engaging, creative, hands-on environment, including the interest of the children and young adults.

PUBLIC SCHOOL & LEHRPLAN 21

PUBLIC SCHOOL & LEHRPLAN 21

We see ourselves as supporting or complementary to public school teaching, not replacing it. We collaborate with schools and teachers, supporting them in the classroom
and by including or linking our contents to their curriculum and/or the Lehrplan 21 and the PER (plan d’étude romand). Further we aim to build bridges between our initiatives to build on each other’s content and approach.

EXPERTISE

EXPERTISE

We are committed to providing high- quality STEM education and training opportunities, adequate to the proficiency and age of the children / young adults. We are working and collaborating with experts and professionals in the field to ensure that our contents are scientifically correct or correctly didactically reduced and pedagogically well prepared.

RESPONSIBILITY & PROTECTION

RESPONSIBILITY & PROTECTION

Protecting the children’s / young adults’ health (e.g. when conducting experiments), the handling of personal data and a responsible use of technology is our highest priority. We take responsibility and provide a safe space.
